Summer Family Reunions - What's Yours Like

Many families try to schedule family reunions during the summer months because the kids are out of school, the weather is usually nice, and it's just plain easier to gather folks in one place during this time.

I was curious about everyone else's reunions. What is it like? Do you go to someone's house or meet at a campground/vacation spot? Do you all bring a covered dish? Just how is it all planned and done?

We've only had one family reunion. It was 18 years ago. We all met in New Oreleans. We were all there for a long weekend, arriving on Friday and flying out on Monday.

We had a great time. What's funny, is I met two cousins who I've never again seen or spoken to LOL

Hubbys family has one every year... it's pretty cool.. The first Sunday in August we all meet at the same spot in a local park.. this has gone on forever!

Everyone brings a dish and you really get used to this part... I so look forward to the smoked turkey that one guy does every year!

It is also right near the zoo so someone usually gathers all the kids and takes them to the zoo. For the most part it's just a lot of catching up and having a good time!

That actually sounds really nice. How far apart are folks scattered? Or do folks fly in/drive in from other areas?
