More than half of working mothers would stay at home with their children if they could afford to, a survey revealed today.
The study for Prima Baby magazine found that three in five (60%) working mothers were only back at work because of financial commitments.
Of those in work, 12% said they wanted to pursue a challenging career.
Two-fifths (41%) said they had sacrificed holidays or their own clothing needs to fund childcare.
But two-thirds agreed that the real pressure to work came simply from the cost of living (75%) rather than anything else.
Almost half (48%) said they felt the pinch from the high costs associated with the birth of a child.
