On assisted suicide? Upon Dr. Kevorkian's release from prison, it made me wonder what some of you all think about what he did. In my opinion, if you are of sound mind and are in a state of turmoil just waiting to die, why should you not be able to make the choice to end your suffering? I know that realistically doctors cannot go around doing this. But do you really think that what he was doing was really such a horrible thing?

My opinion is that assisted suicide and euthanasia are ok.
Jack Kevorikan really helped people, because like he once said: "Dying is not a crime". If someone wants to die - he or she has complete right to do it.

I agree 100%. I think it's ok and should be made legal.

I think that is depends on your view in faith. The bible says that suicide is a sin.

The Bible says a lot of things. But what is you have two choices:
- to suffer a lot
- not to suffer
what will you choose? I think normal ordinary people will choose the second option.

Well, my opinion......... i sure hope that if i were suffering that i could do something about it. There need to be better laws and controls for this sort of stuff so we can make those choices. Doesn't Oregon have something?

Pheww...I said ooo Hot topic don't touch but everyone was quite civilized. :)
I agree that people should have the choice when it comes to living and suffering or moving on peacefully. And that's all I have to say about that!

I believe all life is sacred and that euthanasia is a slippery slope. It is all fine and good to say that people of sound mind should be able to make that decision. However, who determine if they really are of sound mind? This type of thing has a way of becoming a running train wreck. What happens when people are gravely injured and the doctor *thinks* they will not survive? Do you euthanize them so that the person down the hall can get the liver? When you start on this slope, its easy to start looking at the elderly or chronically ill - do you *put them out of their misery*? Where do you draw the line? Can you? Look at the abortion issue - not an issue far removed from this when talking about the right to life and to choose. Now they are debating late term abortions. Where do you draw the line in the future? Who determines that - usually not the voter but the legislature based on who is giving the most to their re-election campaingn.
It is not a slope I would like this country to go down.

even understanding the biblical standpoint, I don't see it as a crime, but a choice. The only one accountable to God is the one dying.

Although I agree with assisted suicide, I think it would depend on the situation and the person involved. I think it should be a personal choice and people should state these things when making out their will. If I had to stay alive and suffer or be bed ridden not able to have any sort of life, why live?

Personally, I don't believe in assisted suicide. My belief is that God will take care of his children. He will take us when he is ready.

If those people want to die then she should be able to die. However, I feel they need to be mentally screened so they aren't just killing themselves because they are depressed, there are other alternatives. If the person is terminally ill and in pain thats another thing. There is a lot of grey area but im not completely against it.
