Putting Pressure on Agencies to Increase Telecommuting

By | Nov 16, 2005

Rep. Frank R. Wolf (R-Va.), chairman of a House Appropriations subcommittee, has included a provision in a spending bill to require certain agencies to prove that more of their employees are telecommuting or risk losing $5 million.

This is an informative article. It’s nice to know there are some strong advocates of telecommuting out there. I often think of telecommuting from the perspective of employers saving money. But this article brings to light the societal benefits of telecommuting. It’s interesting to note:

“The subcommittee estimates that the federal workforce uses 31.1 million gallons of gasoline each week.”

Wow! That’s an awful lot of fuel!
